
The 2009 BMO National Championships kicked off tonight with 4 games playing on the men's side vying for the Challenge Trophy.
Alberta's Calgary Caledonian FC (Callies) took on Manitoba's Winnipeg Hellas Soccer Club at 4pm on the SaskTel Sports Centre pitch. The Callies are the tournament favourite as they've won the last two Challenge Trophy's and could become the first team to win three in a row. The Callies seemed to dominate the first 15 minutes of the match, but Hellas came back strong for the remainder of the game. The Callies Felix Napuri scored before half time and Chris Musto evened up the score late in the second. Mid-way through the second half play was haulted for 20 minutes as Medical assisted injured Callies player Andre Duberry. During added time Manitoba's Jeff Valdivia put one past the Callies keeper giving them the lead, and the victory. Manitoba 2, Alberta 1.

Tomorrow Saskatchewan's Challenge Trophy representative the Huskie Alumni play their first match against Alberta's Calgary Callies, 2pm at the Umea pitch.
The Jubiliee Trophy action kicks off tomorrow with Saskatchewan's NATA taking on Ontario's North London Galaxy, along with 3 other matches.
